Where do VIN checks occur?
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) checks can be done:
- In-person at the South Bend Police Department
- 701 W. Sample Street, South Bend, IN
- Offsite at your location by a Police Officer

When can I get a VIN check?
- In-person VIN checks can be done at the South Bend Police Department during daylight hours only.
- Offsite VIN checks can be done offsite by a Police Officer during daylight hours only.
What do I need to get a VIN check?
In-person VIN check:
- Must have 4-digit South Bend address, and
- Vehicle must be present at the police station
Offsite VIN check:
- Fee paid at the South Bend Police Department in advance, and
- Receipt must be shown to officer when arriving to check VIN, and
- No receipt, the officer will not proceed
