Tend the Bend
Tend the Bend is a neighborhood clean-up program coordinated in partnership with Neighborhood Services & Enforcement at the City of South Bend. NSE provides supplies, tools, and equipment FREE of charge to neighborhood associations, churches, and other groups for clean-ups in their area. No clean-up is too small or large! Sign-ups for 2026 dates are now available!
How does it work?
Submit a Tend the Bend sign-up request.
The organizing group (association, church, clubs, etc.) is responsible for:
- Designating a contact person
- Recruiting volunteers
- Advertising the cleanup event (word of mouth, email, social media, etc.)
- Designating the boundaries for cleanups
- Providing drinks and snacks (if desired)
An NSE representative will confirm the date, time, and supplies needed for the clean-up.
Tend the Bend clean-ups are typically scheduled during the months of April to November on Saturdays approximately 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Other times can be arranged if needed. Please request alternative hours in advance. The number and range of supplies and equipment provided will be based on the scale of the clean-up.
Please keep in mind that Tend the Bend is a neighborhood clean-up, NOT a clean-out. It is not for residents to purge their homes of unwanted items or yard waste.
