Is there a cost for Christmas tree pickup?
The City offers free Christmas tree recycling for residents within city limits from Monday, December 30 to Thursday, January 30. Trees will be collected on the same day as regular trash pickup. Free pickup covers one tree per household; additional trees can be removed for $10 each. Any Christmas tree pickups scheduled after January 30 will count as the resident's free monthly yard waste extra pickup.
How do I request a Christmas tree pickup?
Residents can schedule a Christmas tree pickup by submitting an online request or calling 311 between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. Online requests must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. the business day before the scheduled trash pickup. Requests submitted after 3:00 p.m. will be scheduled for the following week.
Are there any guidelines for Christmas tree pickup?
To ensure safe and efficient pickup, residents are asked to follow these guidelines:
- Place trees at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day. Trees must be in an open area, unobstructed by cars, mailboxes, fences, power lines, or other obstacles. Do not place trees in the street or alley, and avoid parking in front of the tree.
- Remove all ornaments, lights, plastic coverings, tree stands and any metal (including nails). These items can damage equipment or pose a safety risk to workers.
- Artificial trees, or trees containing metal, glass or wire will not be collected. Residents are responsible for properly disposing of these items.
When will my Christmas tree pickup be scheduled?
Pickup will be scheduled on the next available trash day. Residents who submit requests online will receive their scheduled date in the confirmation email, while those who request a pickup via 311 will be provided with the scheduled date over the phone.
311 Process Notes
Cut-off time for the day prior to scheduling is 4:00pm. After 4:00pm, the work order will need to be scheduled for the following week.
Please remind residents we do not accept any lights, tinsel, ornaments or tree stands. Please also check to make sure a "tree bag" has been removed, if used to prevent needles falling indoors.
